At 15 years old, I began my career in the fashion industry. Despite hating being in front of the camera, I saw the space as an extension of one of my childhood loves, the theatre. 

Once on set, all my insecurities went away. I could play with who I was and the different versions of myself. From the covers of Vogue to a Victoria’s Secret angel to the runways of Chanel, Valentino, Prada, and Dior, I grew up all around the world. 

With the constant traveling, jet lag, and long hours on set, it was important for me to find natural ways to keep my energy up and my body healthy so I could continue to perform and keep up with the lifestyle.

When you have cameras constantly shooting your every angle, it’s important that you feel your best, not just look your best. Because if you feel terrible and exhausted, the camera can see it. 

Whenever I needed something to pick me up, help me sleep, or just feel vibrant for a shoot, I would think back to childhood weekends at my grandparents’ farm.

From homemade jam and pickles to homemade herbal cough syrup, it was my days at my grandparents’ house that gave me an appreciation for the land and an understanding of the natural cures it held.

Natural, holistic health was always a part of my childhood, but it was only during my years traveling the world through fashion that I learned how to make it work for me. It was then that I really understood the power of it.

After having kids, I knew I wanted to find something I could put everything into. Something I could create to give back and create something better for the world.

I just didn’t know exactly what.

The Start of Gryph & IvyRose

Meeting my two partners Rachel Finger and Orion Nevel, was serendipitous.

Rachel had two twin daughters delivered prematurely at 28 weeks. She had to spend three months in the ICU with them. During their first year, they had so many issues, from not being able to go to the bathroom to not being able to sleep. 

After trying the medical route and not seeing much progress, she was desperate. With her tiny babies on such strong drugs to function, she thought that there must be a better way. 

It was then that she met Orion, an herbalist I had also been seeing with my family.

Orion’s practice also included that of his father. When they combined their practices of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, it made for a life-changing combination. Within a week of seeing Orion, Rachel’s daughters could finally go to the bathroom, sleep, and so much more.

She was so amazed by the progress. She knew something this special, natural, and effective had to become more widely available for everyone. 

It was there at Orion’s practice that all three of us connected. We knew how powerful these traditional Chinese medicines were, but we also knew they had to be made more approachable, more fun, more modern.
